HEAT TEMPERED LONG- ARM NEEDLES SCHMETZ QUILTING NEEDLES FOR LONG ARM QUILTERS
These are the 3 most common needles used in many long arm quilting machines. Please note that there are two numbers that are very important. First the system number. This describes the characteristics of the needle, its length, and groove type, point, and other factors. Everything EXCEPT THE SIZE. The size, or thickness of the needle from the point to the shank is stamped on the needle. The only way to get a system number is to have the original package, or instruction book with the machine. There are several system numbers which are the same needle, so it is confusing. The 135x7 and 16x257 only differ less than 1/2 of a millimeter in the shank size. Therefore a machine that requires a 135x7 needle would accept the needle in the needle bar, however when tightening would tilt the needle and damage the hook, or strike the needle plate. A machine that requires a 16x257 will not have a hole large enough for the 135x7 so you would not be able to accidentally insert it into the bar. Some machine (like the A-1) take a longer needle (135x17) so be sure to measure length.
The length described is from the top of the needle to the top of the needle eye. The thickness shown is that of the shank (top part of needle) only.
Note: Needle systems to right of needle picture are interchangeable.
